Jesus was a person who attracted a huge amount of interest because there was something strange and special about him.   He fell out with the Pharisees because they preferred everything to be cut and dried and Jesus came to show them that God was much more mysterious than that.  These days we’d say that people weren’t quite sure where Jesus was coming from, he was intriguing, and it was, in a sense, to discover the secret of what made Jesus tick that crowds would follow him from place to place. Romans chapter 11 is the third chapter in a trilogy where Paul talks about the rebellion and fall from favour of Israel – which means that to put what we read there in context we now have to re-read chapters 9 and 10 as well.  You may be extremely relieved to hear that we’re not going to do that this morning.   Read more
