Today you’re going to hear three different voices in the sermon slot. In a few minutes I’m going to talk to Revd. Dr. Rosemarie Mallett, Vicar of St John’s Angell Town about her parish. A little later on Chris Wright, a member of the DCC and the Pledge 08 Team, will share a little bit about our hopes and vision for 2009. I would seem to have been given a very short straw in this lucid little passage I have to talk about from the opening of Chapter 13.  What is there one can possibly explain, expand, analyse, argue about or uplift the hearer by?  What can you carry home that isn’t already manifestly obvious on first reading?  Could it be particularly uplifting anyway?  Pay your taxes.  Is there a sermon in that?
