THANKSGIVING & BAPTISMS
If you are interested in having your child baptised in one of the churches of our parish, we are happy to explore that possibility with you.
There are two types of service. Firstly there is a Thanksgiving Service, which is a simple service of prayer and blessing suitable for any family who simply want to give thanks to God for the safe arrival of a child. Or there is a Baptism Service (sometimes called ‘Christening’), where a child is welcomed into the Christian family and parents and godparents make important promises to bring up the new child as a Christian, knowing God and belonging to the family of the church.
Each of these services takes place within our main Sunday morning service. To find out more, we warmly invite you to come along to our churches on a Sunday and make an enquiry of the clergy after the service. They will then tell you how to go about arranging a baptism, including setting a date. Arrangements for baptism preparation can also be made then.
WEDDINGS
If you are wishing to enquire about getting married at one of our churches, you can contact the Parish Office, who will tell you how to go about making the arrangements.
Simply put, if you live in the parish of Sanderstead, if you are a regular worshipper at one of churches (or would be willing to become one), or if you or a close family member have a strong historic connection with the area or one of its churches, it is possible for you to get married here.
The clergy can also help you with further advice, including the remarriage of divorcees. Please feel free to get in touch directly if you would like to.
GETTING MARRIED ELSEWHERE
If you live in the Parish of Sanderstead but are planning to get married in another Church of England church not in Sanderstead, you will probably need to have your Banns of Marriage called here. To do this please come to the Marriage Hour which is every Monday evening between 8pm and 9pm in the Parish Office. Again, you will need to bring proof of address and payment of the legal fee for this service.
MINISTRY AT THE TIME OF DEATH & FUNERALS
If you need a priest to visit you to help you or a loved one prepare for their death, please contact the clergy directly.
If you would like the clergy of the parish to officiate at the funeral of a family member or loved one, either at a Crematorium or in one of our Churches, please contact the clergy directly or ask your funeral director to do so.
Residents of the parish and worshippers at any of our churches can be buried in the Lower Graveyard of All Saints Church, located on the corner of Church Way and Addington Road. Please contact the Parish Office or Team Rector for more information about this or ask your funeral director to do so.
Similarly, there is plenty of space in All Saints’ Churchyard for the burial of cremated remains. Please contact the Parish Office or Team Rector for more information about this or ask your funeral director to do so.
