A Brief History

All Saints' Sanderstead is sited on top of Sanderstead Hill overlooking the local village and the nearby town of Croydon. Built around 1230 AD, it is one of the oldest churches in the South of England which is still used for worship. Within the graveyard are memories of some famous people, including a Lord Mayor of London and relatives of the Royal Family. Click here for further History articles

Facilities

The Church has it’s own car park and halls. Within the Halls, there is:

   · One large hall (Maximum 250)
   · One small hall (Maximum 75)
   · Garden Room (Maximum 30)
   · Green Room (Maximum 15)
   · Crèche (Maximum 10)
   · Kitchen Facilities
   · Disabled access and toilet
   · Baby Changing Facilities
   · Stage (Performance area)

The church has disabled access and a loop system. There are toilets within the church but no disabled toilet. There are are always people to help gain access to the disabled toilet in the Hall.

How to get there

By Road

All Saints' Sanderstead is within 20 minutes of both the M25 and M23. From the M25, you will need to leave at Junction 7 (A23) and follow the signs to Croydon. Stay on this road until you come to Purley Cross. Here, you will need to be in the right hand lane and follow signs to Sanderstead. From here, follow the road until you come to a roundabout. All Saints' will be in front of you. If you are coming from London, follow signs to South Croydon (A23). You will come to a sign for Sanderstead at Purley Oaks. Follow the road to the top of the hill and turn right into Sanderstead Hill(B2022). At the roundabout, take the first left into Onslow Gardens and All Saints' is on your right.

By Train

You will need the East Grinstead Line from London Victoria or London Bridge. You will need to get off at Sanderstead station which is in Zone 6. From this station, you will need to catch a bus (Route 403). See below for details.

By Bus

All Saints' is on two bus routes. These are Route 412 (Purley to Croydon) or Route 403 (Croydon to Warlingham). Both of these routes stop at Sanderstead Pond
