THE ATWOOD FAMILY
Before going back to the history and generations of the family, you will need to know the changes of the spelling of the name. The following spellings have been found: Del Wode, Atte wode, Attewode, Attwoode, Atwood, At wood, Wode and Wood.
Information has been researched using a number of different sources. This includes The Parish records, Croydon Reference library, Atwood Journals and other Internet sites. By researching, we have found that there is keen interest of the Atwood family.
As Sanderstead in Surrey was the birth and resting place of generations of the Atwood family, there are still reminders of the family throughout the village. For example, one of the village schools is called Atwood school and in All Saints’ church there are many memorials to members of the Atwood family. As with any research we have found many contradictory dates and names from different sources. These have been taken into consideration and have been indicated in the topics below.
If you have information or stories from the past especially pictures you don't mind sharing, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Webmaster@Sanderstead-Parish.org.uk
